Happy Anniversary to the best mom and dad a girl could ask for!
I love my parents and I thank God for them everyday! I would not be the person I am today without them. They have always been loving, caring, and encouraging. When I wanted to do something they usually let me try it. When I was in 6th grade I decided that I wanted to play the flute. They had no idea if this was something I would stick with or not but guess what? They went out and bought me a flute to start beginner band with. That flute carried me through junior high, high school, and even 2 years of college. In all of those years they never missed a concert, a ballgame, or a band trip. It meant so much having them there to cheer me on. The year I decided to try out for drum major they didn't try to stop me. Instead when I was named drum major my mom went right to work getting a crew together to make my uniform. My dad built the stand for me to stand on and carried it to all the games and competitions that season. That was no small task - it was huge and solid wood.
My dad and I took a trip to Israel in the spring of 2007. (I will write a separate blog on that later!) It was a special trip for us to share together. When I came home from that trip I decided I wanted to do something that would be a reminder forever of my memories there. When I went out and got a tattoo of a Jesus fish on my foot my parents didn't cringe or tell me that was a stupid thing to do. Instead, my dad looked at it and said "maybe I should get one too." He didn't. But again I was proud of my cool parents who didn't go nuts. I was 30 so I guess they knew it would do no good to say anything!
I have had some embarrassing moments with them over the years. Who hasn't with parents? Elvis showed up at my 15th birthday party thanks to my dad and a very bad wig. I have pictures to prove it but it still gives me the creeps. To this day I can't stand Elvis because of this one experience! My friends thought my dad was cool. I thought they were crazy. (I think this might be one reason I am still single - I think Elvis might show up at the wedding!)
My parents have helped me move more times than anyone should. Into the dorms, out of the dorms, into apartment #1, into apartment #2, back home, back to apartment #3, back home, and finally into the apartment I am in today. They have helped me purchase washing machines, dryers, TVs, and computers. You name it. If I needed it they have helped me get it. What would I do without them?
My friends tell me often how lucky I am to have such great parents. I believe them. My brother and I grew up in a happy normal household. We had our arguments and threw some tantrums but that made us stronger as a family. Thank you God for giving me the world's greatest parents.
This is where you can usually find them in the fall! Cheering on their Vols in Knoxville, TN!!
On one of our many family trips to the happiest place on earth - Walt Disney World!
I love you Mom and Dad! Happy Anniversary!
Peace and Love,
Selena

So sweet Selena! Happy Anniversary to your parents! I love that picture of them when they were young. Don't you know we all think we'll look just like that forever? I keep thinking about how OLD I must seem to my kids! :-)
